The Under 9's group at Cork Con. consists of approximately 70 players as well as 8 coaches. This is the 2nd training session for these kids and even do we are only at the start of this season, a major improvement in their rugby skill's over last year is clearly evident. All aspects of their game have advanced, ball handling and coordination skills are much better, the passing has improved, the tackling has also improved with the kids now willing to really get stuck into the tackles. The ability to work as a team is also starting to be seen with kids now passing the ball and working together to achieve those vital try's. The increase in the kids strength and the harder tackles means that Gum Shields MUST be worn for all matches, failure to have a gum shield means kids can not play a match.
Attendance at training sessions is always very high, regardless of the beautiful Irish weather, which pays tribute to the eagerness of the kids and their parents. This year see's a much bigger fixture list for the under 9's, with 7 away games and 8 home matches. The season kicks off with a match against Mallow RFC on Saturday 24th Oct. All kids will get a chance to attend at least one match and selected players will be notified in advance of each game.
This year, prior to the away matches, we will not be meeting at Cork Con. Parents and their Kids are to proceed directly to the host club where they will meet their coaches. Club subscription must be paid for kids to play the away matches.
On behalf of the coaches, I'd like to thank the parents and kids for their involvement, effort and eagerness in the training sessions and matches. We are looking forward to a fun and rewarding training year.
