This year's U-10 group looks like being a very strong pool of players. We had over 60 boys at the equivalent group (U-8) last year and we have already added nine new players this season. The age group went through the 2008-09 season with an exceptional record of results and hope to keep up this standard this season. We had eight coaches last year and each of those has volunteered to stay with this group as they advance to the next level of their rugby careers.
This year the boys are stepping up to a higher level of rugby (IRFU Stage 2) and for the first time will be introduced to the scrum and the lineout (un-contested). Already, after only a few coaching sessions, the boys have developed a good appreciation of the skills required for these new aspects of the game. We have a good fixture list already organised for the season and are hoping that each boy will get to play in several matches against opposition from other clubs.
We are always looking for new members, and anyone interested in joining this group (if you have a birth-year of 2000) should come to our weekly training session 10:30am to 12 noon on most Saturdays between September and April. Please make sure to bring a properly fitted gum-shield as boys will not be permitted to play matches or get involved in any contact drills without one.
