Score: Cork Constitution FC 16 V 19 Shannon
Venue: Coonagh
Date: Sat 23rd January 2009
Constitution travelled to league leaders Shannon on Saturday for their first game since before Christmas. They were greeted with a very eerie scene at fog-shrouded Coonagh. However, they had a fine game of rugby and were unlucky not to take full points. In the end they had to settle for a losing bonus point after a good contest.
Shannon settled better after the long lay-off and had the better of the first half leading 19-10 at half time. Cyprien Jouve had a try for Constitution and Darragh Dunne landed the conversion and a penalty.
Con attacked hard in the second period but could not break the well organised Shannon defence. Two further penalties by Dunne kept the game in the balance but Shannon held out to take the four league points.
The result leaves Con in third place behind Shannon and UL-Bohemian and eight points ahead of fourth placed Bruff after seven games.
