Dennehy Cup Semi Final

Score: Cork Constitution FC 42 V 0 Carrigaline
Venue: Templehill
Date: Sun 20th September 2009

Constitution defeated Carrigaline at Temple Hill on Sunday to reach the final of the Dennehy Cup. On a fine morning and a perfect ground they ran the ball at every opportunity and were rewarded with seven tries.

In the 3rd minute Rory O’Sullivan collected a cross-field kick from John O’Donovan to open the scoring. Rob Johnson kicked a fine conversion for 7-0, but missed two penalty chances before O’Sullivan scored a second try after 30 minutes. Two minutes later, Conor Desmond rounded off a sweet move with a try under the posts. Johnson added the points and kicked a penalty just on half time to leave Con 22-0 ahead.

Rory O’Sullivan completed a hat-trick of tries in the 56th minute. Despite the score, Carrigaline continued to contest the game fairly, but struggled against the pace of the Con attack. Killian O’Connor punished them again in the 72nd minute with a strong run to the left corner and in the final minutes John O’Donovan and Billy Newman added further tries for a comprehensive win.

Highfield defeated Sundays Well in the other semi final and the final is scheduled for Model Farm Road next Sunday.
