Munster Seconds League South

Score: Cork Constitution FC 23 V 22 Highfield
Venue: Model Farm Road
Date: Sun 20th December 2009

Constitution and Highfield played a hard fought Munster Seconds League encounter on Sunday at Model Farm Road before Con edged a one point victory.

Highfield took the lead after 20 minutes from a penalty kicked by John Sheehan, which Michael Keyes equalised in the 33rd minute. In the 40th minute, Highfield left wing Paul Stack picked up a loose ball at half way and scorched away to score at the posts. Sheehan added the points. But from the kick off Con attacked and Michael Keyes put a perfect grubber kick to the line that Tim Kenneally grabbed to score. Keyes added the points to tie up the scores at 10 points each.

Mick Cummins, Highfield scrum half, scored two tries on 55 and 61 minutes from good forward play by his pack. Sheehan added the points to the first and Keyes kicked a Con penalty in between to leave Highfield 22-13 ahead. Conor Desmond scored a great try after 70 minutes in similar fashion to Munster centre de Villiers in the Heineken Cup game later in the day. He burst through the middle and ran in from 30 metres. Keyes added the points and then struck the winning penalty from 40 metres in the final minutes.

The win puts Con in second place a point behind UCC with three games to go.
