Score: Cork Constitution FC 14 V 30 Dolphin
Venue: Templehill
Date: Fri 25th September 2009
A very strong Dolphin side outplayed Constitution in their first game of the season under the Temple Hill floodlights on Friday evening. Dolphin attacked at every opportunity and found gaps in the Con defence to register two tries in each half.
Michael Keyes kicked two first half penalties for Constitution, but Dolphin hit back with tries from Rory Kenneally after 10 minutes and full back Jack Hickey just before the break to leave the half-time score at 6-12 to the visitors.
Keyes and Denis McCarthy exchanged penalties in the first 10 minutes of the second period and then Keyes finished a fine break by Tim Kenneally and Billy Newman to bring Con within a point 14-15. However, Dolphin’s better finishing saw them score two further tries from Ian O’Donovan and Paddy O‘Connell before the finish. McCarthy kicked a penalty and one conversion to complete the scoring.
